The Girls of the 115's

Last off-season there was a late evening at one of my favorite establishments when I first got to meet Adrianna Brocco. She was with her dad, Troy who I had already roped into taking a big role within our organization. I was posed with a question about Adrianna joining the group that I have been lucky enough to coach over the past few years. "Absolutely" was my immediate reaction. In complete transparency, I had noooooooo idea how this would play out.

I saw Adrianna play in our Spring Flag Football League  ( all girls division ) and her athleticism was easy to see. I still had no idea of how it would work out, joining the boys 12 and under team this fall. We were in need of a kicker and I knew she was a former soccer player. I wish I could brag about having this insane scouting eye that could see that this girl playing flag football would end up being the best kicker in South Jersey Independent Youth Football program. Her extra points became automatic by the end of the season. Some may not know how important that is but in youth football, kicked extra points are worth 2 points - not just 1 like you see in high school, college, and the NFL. The reason it is that way is because of rare it is to have some one that can kick the ball through the uprights. Adrianna would work tirelessly with CJ Joihnson ( holder ) and Tyler Russen ( Long Snapper ) to get to the point where we all just expected those kicks to go through.

She dealt with some teams that would make comments about her but she truly was a member of a team that is like a group of siblings. Her " brothers " will always have her back. It was an absolute honor to have Adrianna with us this season and I am excited to see her progress as a kicker. I do know that no one will out work her.

Coach Mila DeGregorio was also an invaluable part of my coaching staff this season. Weather it was practicing plan or calling a critical play, Coach Mila was right there. She sent an email this past off season looking to help volunteer in any way possible with the program. Again, if I could take some kind of credit and say that I knew what kind of a Coach she would end up being - I would. I can't say that though. I had no idea how important of a role she would end up playing. She helped run an offense that scored 283 points in the regular season in 9 games! I'll do the math for you - that's over 31 points a game - in youth football that's unheard of. She is going to continue to develop as a Coach and the sky is the limit for her.

People thank coaches all the time but I genuinely realize how lucky I am to have been associated with this program and this group of kids. These 2 in particular taught me a ton and opened up my eyes to many different things.

Thank you to The Girls of the 115's!
